     Ashikaga is a city which is blessed with nature such as Watarase river and mountain range. It has great history and culture symbolized with Ashikaga Gakko and Bannaji Temple. It is famous for its textiles since the old time, but in resent years it turned into a commercial and industrial city specializing in aluminum, machinery metals , and plastic engineering. It has also the Kurita Museum one of the largest porcelain museum in Japan, the Ashikaga flower park and Orihime jinzya Shrine.

     The city lies 80 kms away to the north of Tokyo. The population of the city is approximately 150k. The city has sister city relation with Kamakura in Japan and Springfield, Illinois, USA.
